Tutorial: Book/File Bag


Material’s needed
2 pieces of Main Fabric (9” height x 15 ½ width, ½ “seam allowance included)


2 pieces of Lining (11 ½”” height x 15 ½ “width, ½ “seam allowance included)

1 button

Loop for button 2” width x 6” in length (length can be changed based on where you place the button)

2 pieces 2 ½ " wide strip and 9 “long

2 pieces of Interfacing (9” height x 15 ½ “width, ½ “seam allowance included)

2 pieces to make strap (3” width x 28 “long, you can change the length as per your choice)

Thread, Scissor and Rotary Cutter

 Instruction:

Cut all the fabric pieces and keep aside.

Attach the interfacing on the wrong side of lining ( read and follow manufacturer’s instruction)

Sew the Main fabric 2 pieces to 2 ½” strip.

Sew the Main fabric pieces together with right sides facing each other on all 3 sides except top. Follow the same instruction for lining however leave a 4” gap open at the bottom.

Prepare the straps: Fold ¼” inch of fabric from both sides and sew staight up an then on the other side . (See the picture above).
Turn the Main fabric piece and lining piece wrong side out and mark a 3” at both corners. Sew and trim the ends. See the picture above. (This is just a diagram approximately to help).

Turn the Main fabric right side out. Place the Main fabric in to the lining. Make sure the right sides of Main fabric and lining are facing each other. Place the strap and loop in between the Main fabric and lining right sides and pin them. Stitch all around ¼” away from the top all around.
Pull the main fabrics out from the bottom of lining where you had left 4” gap. Sew the 4” gap and place the lining inside the main fabric.
Topstitch 1/8” away from top and all around.
Place the button according to your loop.
